Andalucian tenor Pablo García-López is one of today’s rising stars of the European opera and concert stages. He is praised by El Mundo for the “decisive beauty of his light-lyric timbre, his unquestionable musicality and communicability.” Known for his fresh sound and expressive delicacy, Pablo is particularly celebrated for his interpretations of Mozartian repertoire, while also being in high demand as a soloist in both baroque and contemporary opera. During the last few years, he has made acclaimed appearances on Spain’s most prestigious stages, leading to international debuts at opera houses such as Royal Opera Wallonie de Liège, Opera de Lausanne, Royal Opera House of Muscat, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía de Valencia and Theatre du Capitole de Toulouse. He has worked with Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Jesús López-Cobos, and Omer Meir Wellber, among other conductors.

In the 2024/25 season, he makes his debut at the Opéra de Tours as Monostatos in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, as well as at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville as Remendado in Carmen. He returns to the Gran Teatre del Liceu as Goro in Madama Butterfly, and to the Ópera de Oviedo as Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro. He also revives the role of Miguel in Don Juan no existe by Helena Canovas at the Teatros del Canal, a role he created at the world premiere at the Festival Peralada in 2024. In concert, he performs Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León. With harpsichordist Ignacio Prego and baroque cellist Josetxu Obregón, he performs and records the Italian-Spanish baroque programme Trompicávalas Amor.

Notable engagements from the 2023/24 season were his role debut as Monostatos in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Opéra de Lausanne, the revival of Tránsito by Jesús Torres at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, Paco Vegellana in Marisa Machado’s La Regenta at the Teatro Español. In concert, he sang De Sópitu, an early music programme with Forma Antiqva at the Festival Internacional de Santander and Spanish songs with the Orquesta de Córdoba. He also gave a sold out Lied recital with pianist Simon Lepper in Córdoba.

Highlights of previous seasons include the role of Ferrando in Così fan tutte at the ABAO Bilbao Opera and at the Teatro Cervantes de Málaga, Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at the Ópera de Oviedo, Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Opéra de Lausanne, Nemorino in Elisir d’Amore at the Ópera de Oviedo, Tinka in Puccini’s Il Tabarro at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Cegeste in Philip Glass’ Orphée at the Teatro Español and Albazar in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia at the Teatro Real. As a concert soloist, he recently performed Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel’s Oratorium nach Bildern der Bibel with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Les Nuits d’Été with the Orquesta de Córdoba, and Salomé with the Orquesta Nacional de España and the Orquesta de València.

Born in Cordoba, Pablo began his singing studies at the conservatory of his hometown with the tenor Juan Luque. Later, he perfected his singing studies at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Centre de Perfeccionamiento Plácido Domingo at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia. He completed his training in Berlin with John Norris. In recognition of his exceptional artistry, Pablo was awarded the Bandera de las Artes de Andalucía in 2020, a testament to his significant contributions to the cultural heritage of his homeland.

His passion for new music has led him to perform several world premieres such as:Don Juan no existe by Helena Canovas, Tránsito by Jesús Torres, Sinfonía Córdoba and Escenas de una primavera alemana by Lorenzo Palomo, Café Kafka by Francisco Coll at the Palau de les Arts, Fuenteovejuna by Muñiz at Ópera Oviedo, El Guardián de los Cuentos by Miquel Ortega at the Baluarte in Pamplona, and the song cycles Hijo Mío by Jesús Torres and Caminos de la tarde by Hermes Luaces.

His first solo album entitled Rutas with pianist Aurelio Viribay was released in 2020, featuring Spanish art songs from the 20th century. Reviews

Concerts of De Sópitu (Spanish baroque) with Forma Antiqva, July 2024

Pablo García-López turned out to be the soul of the group as if he were a pop star. Not only because of the naturalness and freshness of his voice, his ease in declamation, or his tenor range capable of providing both countertenor and baritone colors, but especially because of his stage commitment and enthusiasm. As was anticipated, he ended the evening to much applause, breaking the stage barrier by singing joyfully down the aisle.

The concert, which brought together cultures and traditions, navigated between the emotional and the hilarious. The extraordinary Pablo García-López, a tenor with an extensive range, outstanding technique, and a powerful, clear voice, demonstrated that despite all of the above, his greatest talent as the visible face of the group is his involvement. He delivered a performance full of nuances and humor that ultimately won over the audience.

Pedro in Jesús Torres Tránsito, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, June 2024

The tenor Pablo García López, ideal musically and physically as Pedro, Emilio’s son, who becomes a guerrilla fighter following his absent father’s ideals from within. The final scene, with his death in Tránsito’s arms, was the ultimate outcry of the eighty-minute one-act opera, now an essential addition to the great repertoire of Spain’s best music.
— Sherzo
Pedro is portrayed with great sensitivity by Pablo Garcia-Lopez, already part of the original Madrid production. The tenor’s light and colorful timbre allows him to embody the young sullen and vindictive man in front of his father as well as the desperate man at the moment of death.

Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Opera de Lausanne, March 2024

The supple and unsettling Monostatos by the Spanish tenor Pablo García López, who showcases his virtuosity in the bittersweet rondo ‘Alles fühlt der Liebe Freuden,’ driven at a breakneck pace by Frank Beermann.

Pablo García López plays a particularly devious Monostatos.
